''Upon completion during a trip to Italy in 2001 the song ‘I Begin To Softly Cry’ quickly fell into oblivion, and sat in a big old stack of songs, only to be rediscovered this fall, in the basement of the house where I live today. A bitter little song about desperation, rejection, and great surrender, the song really reminds me of my hometown Borås. Thanks!”

Walking through the cypress alley
The girls are wet, the leaves are dry
Touched by voices from the valley
I begin to softly cry
I begin to softly cry

Lying at the wooden bedpost
I’m looking back on last July
A sudden flashback from the westcoast
And I begin to softly cry
I begin to softly cry

In the blue skies all is well
Nothing’s blue down in this well
‘Cept your eyes in these dreams of mine

In the terror of the twillight
I’m just waitin’ ‘round to die
In the horror of the midnight
I begin to softly cry
I begin to softly cry

(Rambling Nicholas Heron)
