“This song is about being a songwriter in Los Angeles. Sci-fi hillsides are everywhere in this town. Leisz is playing the first really good guitar that Jackson ever bought, way back in his (however brief) days of poverty. It’s a mid-50’s Fender Esquire, which he gave to me in ’82 and which I’ve since given to my older son, so there is a lot of history wrapped up in this recording.”
It’s my home town and I’m gonna start a new band
I looked for Heaven
I couldn’t find none
Just like the center of the Southland
And the words on the tip of my tongue
Tick-tock
Calling out a countdown
How you doin’
I’m a pretty good mess
Got a minute
Come to Star Town
Ride around in the wilderness
Scatterboy’s a little tongue-tied
All these songs and who’s gonna hear them
Survivors on the sci-fi hillside
Gay boys in the ghetto kingdom
Some days it’s more than I can stand
The white sky and the Mexican sun
Me and Holly are heading down Highland
Her little dress about half undone
Scatterboy’s a little tongue-tied
All these songs and who’s gonna hear them
Survivors on the sci-fi hillside
Gay boys in the ghetto kingdom
Tick-tock
Calling out a countdown
How you doin’
I’m a pretty good mess
Got a minute
Come to Star Town
Ride around in the wilderness
